  3. DISCLAIMERS BEFORE READING Most of these steps apply to all types of listings, including custom commissions, premades, and auctions. My theme may not look identical to yours, but all options should be in the same general area. Make sure you are selecting the appropriate category as there are sub-categories that share the same name. All purchases are made through Art Haven. When you upload a listing, a member must click the "Buy" button to purchase it on our site. You should not be asking people to pay you off-site via apps like PayPal, CashApp, etc. You should not be asking people to go to other websites such as Instagram or Discord to contact you about the listing and/or pay you. We have our own purchasing and messaging system. When a buyer purchases a listing, the funds earned will go to the seller's Art Haven Wallet. Creating A Listing (No Add-Ons) Step One Click the "Add Listing" button in the services marketplace. Step Two Choose the appropriate category for your listing. There are categories for different types of customs, premades, handcrafted goods, and auctions. (If you selected a category and then clicked the "Add Listing" button, you will skip this step automatically.) Step Three Fill out the listing sections with the appropriate information. Listing Title - This is the name of the listing that your customers will see. Listing Tags - Add tags relevant to your listing to help others find it easier using the search function or tag pages. Listing Notifications - Turn this on if you would like to receive notifications if a member leaves a comment about your listing. Keep it off if you do not want comment related notifications. Listing Previews - For premade/premade auction listings, you would upload your previews showcasing the piece you are selling. For commissions/commission auctions, you would upload examples of your work to give potential customers an idea of the quality of work they should expect to receive from you. Listing Description - Provide information about the listing, including important things such as: TOS, Refund Policies, Delivery Timelines, etc. Price Proposals - Turn this on if you are okay with potential customers sending you a price proposal if they do not agree with paying the base price you have set, or if you are unsure of how much to charge outside of the base price. This is also called PYP. Turn this off if you do not want price proposals. Price - This is the price of your listing that potential customers will be required to pay. (This does not include the price of any additional add-on fees, which will be discussed in another listing example below.) Collaboration Partners(Optional) - If your listing includes the sale of a piece that had more than one creator, add the name(s) of the collaborators to give them credit. Step Four Verify that all information is accurate and all of your settings are correct, then submit the listing. Completed Listing Preview - This is the seller's view of their own listing. Artwork by Luxor Creating A Listing (With Add-Ons) Follow steps 1-3 in the previous listing creation instructions. Step Four After all of your information is filled out, click on the "Add-Ons" tab at the top of the listing information. Add-On List - Click the "+ Add" button in the top-right corner to create as many as you need for your listing. Add-ons allow your potential customers choose various options to help complete the order quickly and efficiently. The following examples can be done using the add-on options: Size Variations - If you want to provide multiple size options at different prices within the same listing, there are two ways to achieve this. Option One: Set the base price of the listing to $0 and create an add-on for each size option. Live Example Option Two: Set the base price of the listing to the smallest size variation you offer, such as bust, and create an add-on for each size option at the price of the fee difference. i.e. If you charge $30 for a bust, $50 for a half-body, and $65 for a full-body, you would create an add-on option for bust set to $0, half-body set to $20, and full-body set to $35 Live Preview. An option to set size variations separately from additional add-ons is something we plan to implement in the future. Animations - Charge extra for animations, such as eye blinking, sparkles, etc. Crop Sizes - Charge extra for creating multiple crops for different websites, such as DP crops for IMVU, Icon Crops for Art haven, Deviant Art, Discord, etc. And More. The examples above are just a few common options our members use. Viewing A Listing Listing Add-Ons - This button will show you a list of the available add-ons you can select during purchase. Some add-ons may cost an additional fee, not all listings will have add-ons. Listing Purchase - When you click to buy the listing, you will be prompted to select any add-ons as necessary, if available, and will be able to send any information needed for the seller to complete your order. Sending Price Proposals - If a seller allows price proposals, you would click the "Send Price Proposal" button and entered the desired amount which will be sent to the seller. A price proposal does not guarantee a slot or purchase, the seller can accept or decline your price proposal at their own discretion.

  5. Mature Content Art Haven is used by all types of buyers and sellers who intend to conduct professional business on our platform, and we partner with other professional groups and sites to provide the best platform possible for all of our members. While we encourage a diverse artistic atmosphere and creative expression, we do have to be careful and make sure we consider all sides of the community spectrum as we want Art Haven to be inclusive. Art Haven has the right to regulate any content in order to ensure a high quality, professional, and inclusive platform for everyone. This includes manually setting content as mature and sending warnings to those who repeatedly violate our mature content policies. Please understand that this is a sensitive subject, and what may be defined as mature content is not a black and white issue. Similar artworks could be treated differently simply based on the implication alone. There is also the case of content that may be considered "borderline", meaning it tip toes on the edge of what we would define as mature or not. In most cases, we will decide to err on the side of caution and set the content as Mature. What is Mature Content? Content that may seem harmless and safe to one member may seem offensive or deplorable to another. The content shared here on Art Haven may include themes that some members may want to avoid, such as: Divisive political or religious opinions, violence/gore, vulgar language, obscene nudity, drug use, disturbing images, and themes that include sexual content/activity(partially or full--explicitly or implied). This content is what we would consider "Mature" and would require a mature setting when posted or uploaded. Your profile photo, profile background, profile cover photo, and signature cannot contain mature content. While we have a Mature Content System in place, prohibited items outlined in our Community Guidelines cannot be posted or uploaded anywhere on Art Haven regardless of mature setting. Members who do will be immediately banned without warning. The Art Haven staff are aware that some members self-censor their content through methods such as blurring, cropping, color blocking, or other type of covering methods in an attempt to avoid having to mark their content as mature. While in some cases this can work, depending on the content, most of the time these censorship methods are not enough and the content still must be moderated and marked as mature when posted or uploaded. We are also aware that there are those who will attempt to gratuitously portray content that may not directly violate our mature content guidelines with the intent to tease or illicit arousal. Example: Drawing a fully clothed female with a strong focus of the underskirt. This content will also be moderated. How do I set my content as Mature? All content uploaded or posted to Art Haven can be given a Mature rating. Below we will discuss how to set this rating on old or new content. If you submit a post that was supposed to be mature, you will need to do one of the following: If you are Elite, hide the post and ask a moderator to change the mature rating for you. If you are not Elite, edit the mature contents out of the post and contact a moderator to delete it. Resubmit the content with the proper rating. Can I have mature content on my profile? Yes, you can display mature content on your profile in areas that are allowed to be marked as mature. To see which areas allow mature content, follow these steps: Go to your profile. Click "Edit Profile" near the top of your cover photo. Scroll down to the bottom to a list of checkboxes under "Mature Content". Check each section of your profile that you plan on displaying or posting mature content. Hit Save. My content was marked as mature content and I disagree. We understand that not everyone will agree with the decision to mark certain content as mature, however, we reserve the right to make that judgement in order to ensure an inclusive platform for everyone. We have processes in place that help us determine a course of action in these circumstances, processes that are often updated to reflect modern ideals and practices. All decisions are made using best judgments in good faith. If you attempt to change the rating of something that was marked Mature by an Art Haven staff member, this will be considered a violation of our Community Guidelines and may result in disciplinary actions taken against your account. What if I don't want to see mature content? If you do not wish to see mature content, or want to temporarily hide it on the website, you can do so by going to your account settings. Under the "Overview" tab on the left column, scroll down to the bottom where it says "Show Mature Content". Click "Change" to the right, turn off the setting, and click "Save". All content marked mature will be hidden and any mature content you attempt to access via direct links or other methods will greet you with a warning that you are not eligible to view mature content. All members who are 18+ and have their profile information filled out will be able to view mature content. Those who are under the age of 18 or do not have an account on Art Haven will not be able to view mature content. My account is set to show mature content, why is there still a filter/warning? If you are receiving a warning that your account is not eligible to view mature content, you may not meet the requirements outlined above. Please make sure that all of your information on your account is filled out by editing your profile. Please note that if you change your birthday or choose not to enter one, you will not be eligible to view mature content even if you are 18+ years of age. Some content, especially in the Gallery and Forum, will display a safety filter over mature content as an extra precaution for those who want mature content enabled, but also want the power to choose which mature content they want to view.

  7. This topic is NOT in any way, shape, or form to be used to track down buyers or artists of artwork that you do NOT personally own, or to attempt some sort of investigation for art theft. If the artwork belongs to someone else, contact them to resolve whatever issue it is you have, not attempt to get the community involved in this negative behavior. If someone is violating our policies, report them. If it is off-site, do not bring it here. This will be the only warning of this kind. Anyone attempting to misuse the purpose of this topic going forward will be banned from it.
  8. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control based on certain circumstances and this leaves people empty handed on a transaction. If you ever find yourself in need of a refund via PayPal, please follow the steps outlined below to use their claim system. The process is fairly simple and is normally quickly resolved if your refund request is legitimate. Claims are a benefit of the PayPal Buyer & Seller protection programs they offer for all goods & services transactions. You should NEVER send payment to an artist as "Friends & Family", and an artist should NEVER accept payments as "Friends & Family". This is against PayPal's TOS as you are required to pay taxes and fees for using their service and can be fined up to $2,000 if reported. This also prevents buyers from being able to request legitimate refunds, and artists from fighting against false chargebacks. If someone on Art Haven is asking you to send payment as Friends & Family or to pay extra to cover fees, report them immediately by clicking "Report" on the message/post/comment. Important: Filing a false refund request via PayPal can come with serious consequences on their side, especially if the person you're filing against has proof that the transaction was completed properly. Don't put your PayPal or AH account at risk for false disputes. Risks include hefty fines and account disablement, as well as possible legal action. Requesting a Refund Step 1: Log into your PayPal account and go to the resolution center: https://www.paypal.com/disputes/ Step 2: Scroll down and click on "Report a Problem" Step 3: Find the transaction you would like to dispute, select it by clicking the little bubble to the left of the transaction, and then click "Continue" at the bottom of the transaction list. Step 4: Follow the instructions based on the reason for the dispute and input any information as it requests. PayPal will open a dispute between you and the artist. If no contact by the artist is made or the outcome is unsatisfactory, PayPal will refund your money. Note: Do not close or cancel a dispute based on verbal promises. Until you have the item that you paid for in hand or reach the exact outcome desired if you have chosen another reason to dispute, keep the dispute active and open. If you close or cancel a dispute and the outcome is still unsatisfactory, you cannot dispute the transaction for the same reason again. (Double Jeopardy) While we like to have faith that people won't try to cheat the system or you for that matter, we understand there are malicious users who will try to create a false chargeback against you for no other reason than to get their money back, even if the transaction was completed properly. These are done via the person's Bank or Card company they used to pay the transaction with. Fighting a False Chargeback Step 1: Log into your PayPal account and go to the resolution center: https://www.paypal.com/disputes/ Step 2: Respond to the chargeback notice (or check the status of an existing one). Step 3: Provide PayPal with all information relating to the chargeback, including all transaction records (such as proof of sending the purchased item to the user via message, email, or shop post.) Step 4: If the credit card company decides in your favor, the buyer will be charged for the transaction and you'll get your money back. If anyone on AH files a false dispute or chargeback against you and you have proof that the transaction was completed and satisfactory for both parties, please submit a support ticket to the Safety department and provide as much information about the member filing against you as possible. While we cannot directly help you via PayPal, we can help prevent this from happening to other members here on AH.
  9. Uploading to the AH gallery is done in a simple step by step wizard. You can access this by clicking the "Submit" button on any of the gallery pages. Some examples are shown below: Choosing and Creating Albums Unlike images, albums are only created within the Member Albums section of the Gallery. Having all public and private member created albums in a single section allows others to be free from album clutter. To create an album, select the "Member Albums" category from the side menu and click "Submit". This will prompt the upload wizard to appear. Click “Create new album” to bring you to the next screen. It is required for you to name your album, but you have the option of adding a description. At the bottom of the wizard you will see the following options: You will see from the above that you can select ownership and album features. The Ownership setting will allow you to set who owns the album if you are creating it on behalf of someone else. Album features will allow you to select the sort order and whether or not to allow ratings on the images. You may also have another option here of Privacy which you can see below: Elites will have the extra ability to choose who they want specifically to view their albums by typing in member names one at a time. This can be useful in such ways as artists being able to upload finished commissions and linking the album in the finished order for only the commissioner to access. When you are finished setting up your album, click “create album” to save your settings. You will then be prompted to add images. Read “Adding Information” to learn more about the next step. Uploading images There are two ways you can submit images to the gallery. You can either click “Submit” on the main gallery page or within the individual categories. If you are submitting on the main gallery page, click “Submit” to bring up the upload wizard. You will be prompted to select a category from the drop-down menu. Each category has its own subcategory that you can choose from. Select the subcategory that pertains to your image. To submit within a category, click on one of the categories from the side menu. You will be brought to a page that shows all subcategory albums. Select the subcategory that pertains to your image. Once you are in the subcategory’s album, click the “Submit” button to bring up the upload wizard. You are able to upload multiple images at once. If you are submitting to a member created album, click “Member Albums” and select the album you wish to add to. Click “Submit” to bring up the upload wizard. Adding information Once you have uploaded your images, you can then edit the information associated with them. Towards the top of the wizard, you will see the following options: This allows you to add a copyright to the images you own, credit information if you are giving credit to another artist from AH or another website, and tags to all images that you’re uploading. You may also change the notification settings for comments. Clicking on the copyright button allows you to enter a line of copyright text. Next, click on each image to bring up the editor. The editor allows you to add a caption and description. The caption is the title of your image that will be posted as a link. As you can see, you can also add tags, credits, and copyrights to the individual image here. When you are finished setting up your image, click “Submit All Images” to save your settings and upload your image to the category or chosen album. Watermarking All images uploaded to the gallery will have a small 400x400 faint watermark added to them in the bottom right-hand corner to help deter theft. This watermark will be the AH logo and is mostly non-intrusive to the work. (It's faint enough to not take away from the artwork, but visible enough for people to see it.) You will only see this watermark in the full-view version, not in the smaller thumbnails. You are free to continue using your own watermarking styles on your artwork if you feel this isn't enough for the images you may be uploading!

Validating Art Theft i. . . . . . Research before Using j. . . . . . Crediting k. . . . . . Report a. INTRODUCTION The topic of something that is free to use vs. free to sell is a very complex matter that cannot just be set in concrete as black or white. Staff day in and day out constantly see the confusion some users might have when it comes to Stock images/References/ or even random images that can be found on Google. Without a doubt, there is a grey area when it comes to this topic so by gathering as much information as we possible. We hope that this guide will address any/all issues pertaining to it. Free to Use is a very broad subject and we understand the term confuses people the most. We hope at the end of this guide, you're able to grasp the fundamentals of Free to Use images to protect yourself from accidental copyright infringement and possible legal consequences b. THE BASIC IDEA Let's say you're on DeviantArt (or another popular image site that allows users to upload their images) and you found artwork of scenery that would look great in the art piece you've been working on. Now most of the time, the owner of the image will lay out permissions or guidelines of that specific image / of all of their images in general, especially if the image is entitled with Free to Use. Images that are Free to Use all have their own specific licenses stating what the owner of the image allows others to do with it. Some free to use images have licenses that are only for personal use, and others have licenses that allow you to use it for personal and commercial use. c. NEED TO KNOW TERMS Here's a list of terms and definitions that goes over the important words or phrases when it comes to free to use images: Free to Use Even though the subject itself is broad, owners can upload their images and label them as free to use. You are free to use this image, but before you do, check out their license to prevent any future issues. Commercial Use Commercial use is when you're making a profit or financial gain off of something. If you're selling your art pieces, that falls under the term "commercial" because you're looking to make a profit from it. Personal Use If you're not looking to make any monetary gain from an image and using it for yourself only, then this falls under personal use. If you're redistributing the image to other people, even though you're not making a profit, then it does not fall under personal use. License Any image created by someone will have a license. A license is a set of permissions and rules regarding their own images. They will state what they will and will not tolerate. Stock Images Stock images are licensed photographs that are very popular for many things such as advertisements, artwork, and commercial use. They're high in quality and can come in packs. Referencing When you use another source to gain inspiration or ideas for your artwork, that's referencing. When you reference artwork, you also want to credit the image you referenced. Tracing Copy an image's lines is tracing. We actually have a Wiki page dedicated to this topic that dives into complete detail on this subject. Crediting When crediting someone, you're including the original source's information when uploading a piece that collaborates with an image you didn't make. Referencing back to the owner can include a link, their name/company name, etc. d. ARTIST'S PERMISSIONS, RULES, AND LICENSES Whenever an artist or owner of an image presents the image as free to use, they're most likely going to have a set of rules and permissions for you on what you can do with that images. They will point out if you're able to sell the image, edit it, redistribute, or use it for personal means. If you're confused on a permission or rule by the owner, you can always contact them and ask to double check. That is the safer option and artists will more than likely prefer you asking over you using your personal judgment! https://www.deviantart.com/art/F2U-Free-to-use-base-538371426 https://www.deviantart.com/art/Free-Use-Halloween-Lineart-265955230 https://pixabay.com/en/service/terms/#usage This is the term of usage for any image under Creative Commons CC0. It specifically states, "To the extent possible under law, uploaders of Pixabay have waived their copyright and related or neighboring rights to these Images and Videos. You are free to adapt and use them for commercial purposes without attributing the original author or source. Although not required, a link back to Pixabay is appreciated." You are allowed to use and incorporate their images into your artwork and sell it to make a profit. However, even though it's not mandatory, they ask you to credit them whenever you use their images. e. COMMERCIAL USE VS PERSONAL USE Commercial use and personal use are two very important terms you need to consider as an artist. It signifies the permissions given to you and others. If the owner of an image specifically states something is only for personal use, then the image cannot be sold or distributed to others, hence personal. If the owner gives permission for you to use it commercially, then you may use it and make a profit from it. This doesn't mean you can find any image that gives you permission to sell it and sell the same exact thing on AH, though. Reveal spoiler for examples f. FREE TO USE ADOPTABLES AND ADOPTABLE BASES You are not allowed to redistribute adoptables that weren't made by you, even if they're free to use. The owner of an image gives a set of rules and permissions and so does AH. If you are given permission to use the adoptable as a reference, then you are free to make an adoptable of your own and sell it that way. Ideally you want to be creative and authentic in the artwork you create and showcase on AH. Using references and free to use images within the permissions of the original owner and within AH's Guidelines are fine. Copying / Tracing an image completely is not allowed on AH, regardless of it's permissions given by the original owner. The only permissible way you may copy a character design is if you are creating a photo study (cannot be sold or shown as a shop example) or making fanart ( not to be mistaken with tracing / copying an entire image, the fanart must be transformed and elevated to something different. Please see [ Rules Regarding Fanart ] ) https://gasrforum.net/rules/#ocfanart g. BASES AND STOCK IMAGES Just because the owner of a base or stock image is giving something away for free does not mean that you’re allowed to use it for commercial use. Usually, the owner will list rules and permissions of their image and you must abide by them. Please look over these examples of rules and permissions these owners have given: The owner of these bases specifically states you may not use the bases for commissions, or commercial use, and for personal use only. You may not trace and must credit them. Reveal spoiler for more examples h. VALIDATING ART THEFT We've ran across this issue, where a user will claim another artist used the same image as them to validate their own case of art theft. Just because someone committed a wrong doing does not mean in any way you're able to commit the same wrong doing. Everyone is equal and will be treated equally. If a user commits art theft, they will receive a warning or a ban, There's no way around this. Pointing fingers at others will not take distract from the theft you have committed. Credit your sources & read the owner's rules and permissions when dealing with free to use images. i. RESEARCH BEFORE USING Make sure you do your research!! It cannot be stressed enough that you should make sure you dig deep for information pertaining to what you want to use. Also be sure you’re at the source of where the image came from. Some websites like to take people’s work and post them on their own site to draw in an audience, without thinking of the consequences of improper crediting. Even if you didn't know the image you were using had rules that you countered, the original owner of the image can still take action against you. j. CREDITING Always credit your sources, especially when you're not the owner of a free to use image. Make sure anything that you credit is correct, especially when you are not the original owner of the image you are using within your artwork. Failure to do so could possibly lead to legal action being taken against you by the owner of the image, and will absolutely lead to a warning/ban here on AH. There are limits to commercial use, even if the owner has given permission for you to use it commercially. Crediting plays a big factor in free to use images. Just because it's free to use, doesn't mean you can get away without crediting the author. Image created by: rika-dono @ DeviantArt https://rika-dono.deviantart.com/art/Riding-a-broom-pose-433524283 This image was used a reference for artwork. The image itself was referenced properly, but the artist did not credit the owner of this image, who is rika-dono @ DeviantArt. k. REPORT If you spot a member trying to sell a piece that involves a free to use image, when the image's owner themselves state specifically to not sell their image, then report this user. It's considered art theft and we take it very seriously on AH Forum. With your help, we can help intermit this issue! Thanks goes out to @kyles, @Fervent, @Luxor, and @Lazy for the collaboration to help critique this article for the benefit of all users.
  11. Table of content Basics of Photoshop Using Hotkeys in Photoshop Handy tricks while drawing in Photoshop Basics of Photoshop Here I will explain you the basics of using photoshop. There's almost no limit to what you can do in Photoshop, We're going to talk about some of the most basic things you can do in Photoshop Zooming Rotating Selecting Transforming cropping Resizing Shortcuts are: Function Hotkey Zooming Z or hold in Ctrl+space or hold in Alt+space and drag with mouse Rotating R Selecting tool L Marquee tool M Transforming Ctrl+T cropping Crop tool C Resizing Image Image > Image size Zooming It is important for an artist to zoom in and out to add more details to their work. You can use shortcuts like Ctrl+space or hold in Alt+space to zoom in out and without clicking on the tool itself to zoom in and out. Rotating Rotating is also a important tool for an artist, when you draw on paper, you can rotate your paper 360° but not your computerscreen To able to rotate, you can use the rotation tool or simply press R Selecting/transform Sometimes you drawn a thing but its not on the right spot... , no fear, selecting is here! Instead of erasing the whole part of the drawing/painting, you can simply select that specific part with the lasso tool and move around (hold shift in while moving) till its on the right spot. If you want to fill a specific part, simply select that part with the lasso tool (L) or the Wand (W) (Note: Wand may not be accurate with their selecting) and fill it in with the bucket (G) You can use the marquee tool to make a perfect circle/square, just hold in Shift while you're making a circle/square. Cropping Sometimes you either have too much space in your piece and want to cut it out. There are 2 ways to crop. 1) With the crop tool (C) Select which part you want to keep, you can still move the image. Done with moving? press enter! 2) With the marquee tool + Image>Crop Select which part you want to keep with marquee tool, in your menu click Image > Crop Resizing Lets say, you've made a artwork but its a bit too big. To make it smaller you can go to Image>Image size and enter your desired size (Note: You can resize it. However, keep in mind that making an image larger than its original size generally does not look as good.) Using hotkeys in Photohshop Have you ever have that moment when you get tired to click on the toolbar all the time instead of just the keys on your keyboard while drawing? Here are some handy hotkeys while drawing: Function Hotkeys If you need to undo your mistake (only once, by pressing ctrl+z again, you'll be back at your mistake) Ctrl+Z to go undo further than your previous mistake. Ctrl+alt+Z Transform Ctrl+T Copy Ctrl+C Paste Ctrl+V Cut Ctrl+X Select all Ctrl+A Deselect Ctrl+D Save Ctrl+S merge with the layer under Ctrl+E moves the layer with your mouse Ctrl+drag pick the color with the eyedrop tool Hold in Alt key Duplicate the layer you're on (if you select a piece of the layer you're on with a lasso tool or marquee tool and press the hotkey, it will only duplicate the selected piece from the layer you're on) Ctrl+J Note: At first you might be still a bit confused on what key to use, but after a while you will get used to as playing notes on a piano. Handy tricks while drawing in Photoshop Color eye dropper When you're drawing but instead of going to your color wheel all the time for the color you've used, You can always hold in Alt key and pick the color with the eyedropper and continue painting. Eye dropper out of Photoshop When you are drawing in Photoshop with chrome open next to your Photoshop window but want to have the exact color without copy pasting the image in your Photoshop. It can! Just simply press Alt+click hold on your canvas, hold it on your canvas and drag/move out of your Photoshop window to your chrome. (don't let go till you have the color of your chrome browser!) Quick switching When you're drawing with the brush tool (B), but you need to erase something quick or small, just hold in Eraser (E) key while erasing the part you want it gone. done with erasing? just let go of the Eraser (E) key and it will go back to your brush tool. (Note: You can do that too with Rotating (R), Bucket (G), etc.) Straight lines Ever want to make a straight line without being wobbly or curved? Select your brush, mark a dot of where you want to start, not hold on shift and mark a dot where you want to end. Now you have a line! (Note: It depends on how hard you press to make the line clear or not clear, the harder you press, the thicker/clearer the line, If you do it with mouse, its just one perfect line without pressure.) Editing in shapes of other layers When your shape is on layer 1 and you're on layer 3 but you don't want to color out of the shape on layer 1, hold in ctrl and click on the layer thumbnail to select the shape. (You don't have to select layer 1 to select your shape) Image clipping mask You want to color or highlight/shadow your shape but you don't want to use the selection of the shape to color in because it bugs you or you cant edit other layers this way. You can clip the layer above layer 1 by clicking right click on the layer and click on "Create clipping mask". You can also hold Alt key in and click on the line between Layer 1 and Layer 2 Layer Mask You are painting with clipping mask on on Layer 2 of the shape on Layer 1, but there must be something in between that isn't the shape of Layer 1. There is also a other way to paint while containing the shape. Release the clipping mask first. You select the shape of Layer 1 by Alt+click, select/click Layer 2 and click on "Add layer mask". When its in his layer mask, you cant move it with your move tool (Ctrl+dragging). You can still move your layer up and down, draw on it, creating clipping masks on it. Edit Layer mask While it has been turned into a Layer mask but you want to add a selection to the shape or you forgot something, simply click on the mask and you notice that your brush will turn to either black or white. Black is for erasing the selection and White is for adding selection. (Note: If you merge your Layer masked layer on top of a normal layer, the layer mask will dissapear) Create shapes with Pen Tool Can't you figure out how to draw the perfect shape without making messy sketch lines to make a straight line of a square of a curve of a bridge? Then Pen tool is the best way. Select the Pen tool and make the desired shape, you can hold in Ctrl to move//adjust your lines by dragging the lines or the dots. You can make a selection/shape or make a stroke with it. To make a stroke of the shape, right click > Stroke path. You will get a pop up box to choose your tool. In our case we want it as the brush tool. Click "OK" and there is your line/shape. After you're done with pen tool, Right click and "Delete path". Here is a difference of with and without Simulating Pressure (Note: The thickness of the lines depends on your brush.) Example if you were working on a 4px brush before you went to use the pen tool, the lines will be 4px. You can go back by clicking on your brush, set it on 1px and click on Pen tool again without losing your shape/line. (Will only be gone if you delete the path) Rotating symmetrical While drawing with your drawing 98° turned, you want it back to normal but cant seem to get it right. While holding in R to rotate, hold in shift too and it will fit perfectly at 0° Editing Hotkeys If you want to change your hotkeys, you can do so by going to Edit > Keyboard shortcuts... You can select Application Menus or Tools to your liking PS: Its for windows pc Have fun figuring out Photoshop!!!

  13. What is tracing? from: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/tracing In other words, it means to take an already created image and draw over it on another layer (if digital) or paper (if traditional). It means you did not create that image, you drew over it and copied it line by line so that it is not originally made by you. You reproduced the same image and claimed it as your own. Tracing includes: Tracing over a photograph Tracing over an artwork Tracing a photograph/drawing and then altering it by adding some details Tracing part of a photograph/drawing and incorporating it into your own For Example: This would be tracing Megan Fox. This would be tracing an artwork made by Wlop (original art): What is artwork from scratch? from: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/from-scratch Artwork from scratch is something that is entirely made by you without any use of tracing or bases. The character/concept you've created is original. The initial sketch/blocking is done by you In no part of your drawing did you use anyone else's work or photograph in your work to aid in it's creation Using references does not make your artwork unauthentic, however please note that there's a difference between using references to help you create your artwork and between heavy referencing. For more information on heavy referencing: Click Here An Example of artwork from scratch: How can you tell if something is traced? Traced artwork generally looks very stiff "Plastic" looking colouring The anatomy is very good however the colouring looks strange and lower quality Messy lines but good anatomy Rough edges on the artwork Randomly blurred sections To find out more on how to avoid getting scammed: Click Here Is tracing artwork or a copyrighted image illegal? The answer to that question is irrefutably yes. from: " Lee Wilson’s The Advertising Law Guide, chapter “Copyright Infringement and How to Avoid It" In plainer terms, you have taken another person's property and used it without their permission. This is illegal and viable to prosecution by law.

  15. While the staff here try their best to be vigilant when it comes to scams, the best tool you have at preventing them is yourself. There are a lot of signs that can tip you off that a user is trying to scam you, and some are more obvious than others. This guide was created so that you can keep yourself safe before the scam happens. While these are typical red flags of a possible scam, remember to look for multiples. Most thieves do most, if not all of these at once. If they're only ticking one thing off the list, it's probably nothing to worry about. Please remember to report anything you feel is suspicious. Do not take it upon yourself to confront a user under any circumstances. Important Signs to Look Out For 1) Extremely High Quality Artwork With No/Low Quality Watermark Artists should watermark their artwork, especially pieces they intend to sell. If you see a high quality piece with no watermark, it's a sure bet that they took it from another website and cropped it out, or took it from a resources site that's not intended to be distributed/sold. If it does show a watermark and the watermark is low quality (weird fonts, poorly placed, etc.), it's another sign that they probably took it from somewhere else and are trying to make it seem legit. 2) High Quality for a Low Price If a piece looks like it's worth $100, but the user is only asking for $15, something's off. Most established artists with high quality work will refuse to undersell themselves. While this isn't listed at #1, this is one of the first things that are noticed when dealing with a scam situation. 3) Inconsistencies in Artwork Style If a user posts a few pieces of work as examples and the style varies greatly between each, that's an incredibly obvious sign that the user is trying to sell artwork they might have traced, copied, or stolen elsewhere. This is especially so when dealing with artwork claimed to have been "from scratch". There's a common misconception that even if you trace/paint over an image, it's "from scratch" because technically you did the work yourself, however, that is a misuse of the term. Tracing is tracing, regardless of how much effort you put into it. Note: If you'd like more information regarding tracing vs. from scratch, please view the following article: Click Here 4) Only Offering Premades This is another major sign of a scammer when combined with some of the others. Users can't replicate the pieces they take, so they stick to selling stolen items as premades to try and make as much money as possible in the quickest way. One of the biggest areas hit hard for theft scams is the premade market itself. It's important that you pay attention and protect yourself when seeking art from the market. 5) Business Handled Exclusively via PMs This is pretty much self-explanatory. They insist on handling business via PMs only, such as giving examples of their art, discussing details, and providing finished pieces. This allows the user to trace or steal other pieces to meet your needs out of the public eye to avoid getting caught. Smaller Signs to Look Out For Even though these are less significant, they're still things you should be aware of, as a combination of them can also mean a possible scam can occur between a transaction with the user. This does not mean that someone with a default photo is a scam artist. Like stated above, an actual scammer will have a mix of these, if not all at once. 1) Incorrectly Sized Avatar Image While this isn't always true, such as with new members who haven't figured out the profile settings, a significant amount of users you see posting artwork for sale using a default photo (or a photo that isn't 160x220) are likely here for malicious purposes. 2) No Social Media Presence Even though not having a social media presence isn't necessarily a bad thing, someone selling high quality art will usually have a presence somewhere, as networking is part of being a successful artist. It is extremely rare that an established artist would have absolutely no social media handles. 3) Low Post Count Like stated previously, this isn't always true, but when combined with other aspects listed here, it's a good indication that the user is likely here for malicious purposes. This is easy to spot in the premade section. If you see a user with very little posts trying to sell premades, especially in the premade market, check to see if they match any of the other signs listed here. If they do, you should probably report it and avoid purchasing anything from them. Let me reiterate this one last time. Please remember to report anything you feel is suspicious. Do not take it upon yourself to confront a user under any circumstances. Staff have a responsibility to provide a safe and reliable platform for artists and buyers, so please let us handle these users as you come across them.

  19. Freebies Thread This topic is a privilege that can be taken away any time you fail to follow the rules provided by the forum staff or artists. Also only because the art is free doesn't mean we tolerate theft. What is Allowed DP Art Edited Screenies Big Avatar Art Banners Backgrounds Icons Pixel Dolls Chibis Sketches or Lineart Any other kind of free art you can think of What is NOT Allowed Any kind of EC/NSFW Art. Screenies (It is hard to tell who is the owner of a screenie and problems can happen easily) Any kind of stolen art. Information & Guidelines for Artists The general rules of the AH still apply that means you are only allowed to post art made by yourself. By posting art in this topic you agree that all users may use the art provided. If you have certain rules the users have to follow to use your art please add them into your post. Such rules may be: Not claiming to have made the art posted in here. Crediting the artist who made the art. No changes may be made to the art unless stated otherwise. No selling or stealing of the art. Art is only to be used on this forum or DA. These are only a few examples of rules that the artist may add. Certain types of art may require different rules. For example providing a free background makes only sense if the person may use it to create something else, however you can limit the way the person can use it. (No editing of the background itself, personal use only etc.) We encourage the artist to watermark their work if they want to make sure they are credited for the piece of art they provide. Of course it is your choice if and how you do this however we would suggest that if you add a watermark to make it as simple/small as possible in relation to the size of the art. Information & Guidelines for Users Please consider that the artists are willing to give you art for free so the only right thing to do is give them back the credit they deserve. If they art has a watermark further credit is not needed but welcome. Especially when it comes to DP Art it is pretty easy just to add into your profile who made it. There are some rules I would like all users to follow: Do not steal the art and try to sell it. Follow the rules added by the artist. No Spam is allowed in this topic. Be polite and respectful to everyone. If you noticed that any art posted here was stolen contact a moderator with proof. 21. ✎Quick Guide to Partner Searching So, you're looking to open up a shop, but don't want to strike out on your own? Perhaps you're new to the AH, and don't know enough people to start a partner shop -- opening up a partner search thread may be just what you need to get your legs under you. ✎ Questions to Ask Before you open up your thread, work out for yourself what you wish to accomplish. Here's a list of questions which might help you get started: 1. What kind of shop are you looking to open? Is it a partner shop, a collaboration, or both? 2. How many partners are you looking for? 3. What kind of skill level do you expect a potential partner to have? 4. How do you prefer to get in contact with your partner? 5. When will you be selecting a partner? That's obviously just a start -- you know best what you're looking for. The thing to remember is to let your applicants know! Once you've decided who and what you're looking for in a potential partner, it's a good idea to decide how applicants may apply. Do you want them to fill out a form? Just post some examples? An application form is a great way to maybe get to know a few things about your applicants. It's also a great idea to fill the form out yourself, so that your applicants can get to know you! To create an effective form all you really need to do is compile the information you've already decided you need to know, and voila. The rest is up to your applicants! ✎ Example Applications Here are a couple examples of pretty basic application forms, if you're not sure how to go about setting one up. Seeking a Partner Example: What's your name? What do you prefer to be called? What timezone do you live in? How active are you in the forums? Do you have any theme ideas? Share a few examples of your work? What's the best way that I can get a hold of you? Seeking a Collaboration Example: What's your name? What do you prefer to be called? What timezone do you live in? How active are you in the forums? What editing programs do you use? Share a few examples of your work? What are your favorite parts of an avatar to edit? What are your least favorite parts of an avatar to edit? What's the best way for us to share files? There are many other options that are important to consider when opening a shop with one or more people. It might be worth scooting your way through the partnerships that are already set up in the art forums, just to get an idea of how they work. Do you want to set up a shop with a theme? Who's going to put together your graphics? Work through these things before you get set up, so that everyone's aware of the level of commitment and involvement you're expecting. ✎ Extra Information Finally, be respectful of one another. If your partner's busy with RL things and can't be around as much as you'd like, don't get upset with them. Similarly, if you know you're going to be too busy to keep track of your shop, let your partner know beforehand. As always, if you have any issues with customers, or ever with each other, try to deal with it privately, and if something gets out of hand please feel free to contact a moderator, and we'll do our best to work out a solution. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot any of the Staff Members a PM. If we can't immediately answer your question we can definitely direct you to someone who can.
