UPDATE: NEW BASIC MATURE CONTENT SYSTEM

Hello Haveners!

As many, if not all of you, are already aware, our previous Mature Content System was unfortunately removed following updates to our software and script language back in August 2022. Initially, the system was only temporarily disabled, but after many attempts to reach out to the freelance developer who created the mature content system, we've come to the very disappointing and unfortunate decision to permanently disable this feature. We have tried to reach out to have the developer update the script language to the newest version, but have been met with much difficulty. We will continue to reach out to them, but at this time we've decided to explore other options as well.

Fortunately, our software developer recently released a new update that allows users to enable a mature/explicit content filter to images uploaded to the gallery. This means that you will once again be able to post mature content to the gallery without being required to add your own forms of filtering or cropping in order to hide the "explicit" parts of your images. However, this system has yet to be added to the forum side of the site and there is no word as to whether this will be added or if it is currently planned. To be completely transparent, this was actually a complete surprise that they even added this system as we were previously told that there were no plans on adding anything like this. While we're glad this feature was added, it continues to be a complete frustration to us on how we can appropriately allow mature content to be posted on our site. We also understand that our community is frustrated and we understand why they are frustrated. The lack of control we have over this subject is completely maddening and we apologize to our community for the lack of a better solution at this time.

With that said, we would like to provide users with a sort of "work around" that will allow them to post mature/explicit content both inside and outside of the gallery.

Users should still be able to embed links to the gallery within their posts which allows an image preview to be displayed. For those of you who post mature/explicit content to your shop topics, please use the following steps to advertise your mature content premades or commission examples:

  1.  Upload your image to the gallery
  2.  While editing the details of your image, select the "not safe for work" toggle
NSFW Toggle Image Editor - Side.png
Or, if you are uploading more than one image, select the drop down "set NSFW on all" and toggle the feature
NSFW Toggle Image Editor - All.png
  3.  Hit "save" and "submit all images"
  4.  Grab the link to you newly uploaded image
  5.  Add it to your post - DO NOT paste the link as plain text as this will not embed the image.
  6. Click "save" or "post" and you're done!

If you would like to add a filter to an already uploaded image, simply select "edit details" scroll to the bottom, and toggle the feature
NSFW Toggle Image Editor - Edit Exisiting.png

This filter works similarly to our previous mature content system - the image will be blurred and will only be unblurred after selecting the option to "view anyway". Now, the unfortunate piece of this, however, is that the embed will continue to display the filter without the "view anyways" option (hoping this changes in the future because why would this not be a thing already 🙄...). Users will continue to see a blurred preview unless they click the link to be redirected to the actual image within the gallery. Once they click "view anyway" the filter will be permanently disabled and the filter will no longer display on the embedded version.

If you wish to bypass this and not have to force users to go to the gallery unless they are interested in the piece, you can follow @ Binku 's suggestion and instead crop the image so that it complies with our guidelines, add it to your post, and hyperlink the gallery version. It's a few extra steps, but this will at least provide your potential customers with a better preview of the image. If you don't wish to crop the image, you can instead add your own form of filtering so long as it is large enough to cover the full area containing the mature/explicit portion of the image. To hyperlink images, please follow the steps below:

  1. Insert your image into your post
  2. Press the control key and right click the image
  3. Select "edit link" and insert the url to the image in the gallery
  4. Click "insert into post"

By adding a hyperlink to your image, users will simply need to click it to be redirected to the gallery upload.

Please be aware that although you may use this "work around" to use that mature filter, it does NOT mean that you can sell artwork or services in the gallery. The gallery is for advertising or display purposes only. If you wish to post items for sale, you must use the appropriate channels.

Again, this is a temporary fix while we explore our other options for an easier and permanent solution. Our previous mature content system was completely custom and was made specifically for us. We had hoped to avoid asking another developer to build another mature content system for us as the previous was fairly expensive, but at this time it's looking like we may have to do so. This will be a process and we have no ETA of when anything of the sort will be ready - it takes a great amount of time to develop such a program. The leadership team would like to sincerely apologize and express our gratitude for the continued patience from all our users.

We'd also like to apologize for our lack of communication these past few months. We've had many set backs due to recent software updates and have experienced life changes (one of us recently bought a house, we started new jobs/careers, etc., several illnesses (we've each had the flu or COVID at least once), and have been hard at work behind the scenes. It has taken us time to get Art Haven 2.0 ready, but we promise we're making progress in it. Some of you may have already noticed a few changes already and we intend to release a full list recent updates soon (no ETA because things keep UPDATING SCREEEEE). We've also recently made some big changes to our staff positions and intend to open applications soon. Having more hands on deck will definitely help us move things along much faster.
