You can change the channels permissions to make it where all channels are hidden except the intro channel and rules channel and then they get the new role to see everything after they've introduced themselves, etc. You're free to dm me if you'd like help further help with it and I can walk you through it. <3 
Btw, just a thought but don't you think people having to check in with a selfie is kind of intrusive? Some people are very shy or don't want their pictures out there for valid reasons. I'd try a different method but that's just me.

Aw hun, I'm really sorry it sounds like its taking so long. I know I felt hella anxious with my orders when I ordered too ;-;! But you should bring up your concerns to the artist or have them update you on progress so you know its going well! Customer service is everything from the artist's perspective to make sure you are happy from start to finish 

I get what you mean I’m in the same boat. But they always end up being well worth the wait
