Art Haven wants to remind you that Discord links are not allowed within shops or listings. We have received many reports of ongoing drama that happens through other social media platforms. Unfortunately, anything that happens outside of our website cannot be helped by the Art Haven staff. The reason we have put this rule into place is to maintain the safety of our community. It is recommended that all orders/transactions/reports stay on Art Haven so that it can be tracked. We want the best for our artists and buyers, and we appreciate you guys sticking with us through these changes! On a different note, numerous requests about Shop Pins were received. Members were asking when a pin would be available next, due to its popularity. We have gone ahead and reduced the max amount of time you can have your shop pinned. This is to offer artists a better chance at being featured. Previously, you could purchase shop pins in 7-day, 15-day, and 30-day periods. The 30-day option has been removed, making the 15-day option the new maximum. We have also increased the number of pinned topics per section to 6, with the previous number being 5. We hope that this helps expand the variety in our community! During the start of May, Art Haven began making an event in correlation of the Coronavirus (COVID19) that has affected the entire population. It was a rough time, and still is for many people. This event in particular "May You Stay Healthy" was a way for us to make people aware that they are not alone during this time. We are all in this together. The idea in mind for this event was to get everyone from the community to continue raising awareness about the pandemic, through your words or through your art. It is also to help give you a space to openly discuss your thoughts about how you have been dealing with this if you cannot talk to anyone else. The actual “rules” of this event were divided into two sections: Section One Drawing: Draw yourself/OC wearing a surgical/face mask with messages to stay inside as either a medical worker, essential worker, or yourself in quarantine. The message can be anything if it relates to the pandemic and your understanding of the situation. The person can be holding a sign with the message or it can be a chat bubble. Be creative! Section Two Writing: We will call this a “check in” because we want you to check in and see how you are doing. We want you to know that there are people here for you and that you are not alone in this. Together we can come out of this stronger. We have provided some questions that you can answer or use as a guide to help you start. You can talk about anything you want if it relates to the pandemic. More information about this event can be seen here! August was a blast for doing Events! We all had such a fun time doing 28 Days of… (Cats and Dogs), which has finally come to a beautiful end. Seeing everyone’s entries was quite beautiful, and you can check them out here! To summarize: for half of the event duration, prompts were given out for the theme of cats every 48 hours. Once that section closed, the rest of the event was about dogs. They were quite wonderful ideas to help you draw! This event was suggested by one of our very own users from Art Haven. But to the humorously contrary part to my username, I’m not a big food person! While my appetite in quarantine says otherwise, I prefer to eat very little and things that have little to no flavour. It’s a site of creativity, owned & founded by creative people, for creative people and cuts nobody out. food’s Profile | food’s Shop Have you been curious about how artists are featured through Art Haven’s social media pages? One of the many ways is from Art Haven’s section Meet the Artist. It is the perfect opportunity to get to know people in the community! Artists participate in an interview that’s 10 questions long, and digs right into the juicy details. These artists then get featured for a whole week while their interviews permanently stay on Tumblr. Staff are always searching hard for new people, which is a lot! If you have not been contacted and are interested in participating, please contact Zalila@AH. Many of us have run into struggles at one time or another with painting skin. What colors do I use? Where do I place my lighting? How do I convey texture? In these examples, the artist RyKy gives you two sheets on how they handle all three of those questions and more. Both tutorials are by RyKy on Deviant Art, and their profile can be found here. Let’s face it— making the transition from traditional art to digital is difficult. It can be very frustrating, and you often times feel like you should give up. But did you know that there are many resources that can help you get around this learning curve? Malyse McKinnon, Astropad’s Director of Artists Relations has provided her experience with the matter, and we think it’s worth a listen. One of the best tips that McKinnon provides is to always work on a large canvas. Not only does this help you draw at ease, but it also helps you maintain the image quality when you scale down. Your masterpiece can be at risk of pixelation when you resize the canvas from small to big, and we definitely don’t want it to be ruined by that! McKinnon makes another good point, which is that layers and the undo button will be your best friend. Creating art is not a quick process, and it’s okay to take as much time as needed. McKinnon recommends giving yourself an adjustment period. Once you’re settled in, you’ll see how easy it is to bring your own experiences to digital art.
