Hello! I was wondering if you guys could help me with something?
So, recently I have been trying to improve my art style since I really like the semi-realism style.
I have tried to look at a lot of videos and speed paints and I find them useful but, I have a lot unanswered questions...
I mostly struggle with colours and shading without it looking like I blended until my hand has fallen off.
Any suggestions to help?

So, recently I have been trying to improve my art style since I really like the semi-realism style.

I mostly struggle with colours and shading without it looking like I blended until my hand has fallen off.
Any suggestions to help?

This will all be up to your own personal liking, but here are a few ways you can blend, without over blending:
1) Opacity! Changing the percentage of opacity on a brush will help you layer colours. Though i suggest using a soft brush than one with a hard edge, as you'll get quite a textured look if you use hard brushes.
2) Air brush! Air brush/ really soft brushes are used a lot, but are commonly over-used. They'll help you blend, but if you're not careful they can make your art look burred. How to avoid this? Use selections! I use free form selections (you just kinda circle stuff) and you can get sharp edges with well blended colours. I'll usually use a massive brush size (600-1000) and use the very edge of the brush (as this is where the colour is less saturated) and than you can control how much you blend/erase.
3) Why not use both! I find using a bit of both methods gives the best results! it just depends on the size of your drawing and what kind of detail you want. I hope this helps! though, it's hard to explain without pictures..

SAD AND LONG UPDATE:
I was actually getting used to drawing on my laptop and then guess what happens? It dies. It won’t start up and instead beeps at me which, from doing research online, means there’s something wrong with the battery? Not 100% certain. I didn’t even do anything to it )):
There is some good news: I don’t keep many important files on my laptop. I luckily, sent a premade that I finished and had not sold to myself because I wanted to see how it looked on my phone (since the colours display better). If my laptop can just be restored to how it was, everything with business will be fine regarding my custom shop.
The bad news? If it cannot be and has to be wiped, I will probably have to find a new cracked version of paint tool sai and learn how to do effects with Gimp (kill me). Unless the price to fix my laptop is more than $100 (because I REFUSE to pay more than that on this piece of crap) then I will be out of commission until the end of May which would make me exceedingly sad.
I will keep you guys updated the computer repair place is open on Monday but I am busy for the most of Monday and Tuesday with class so overall just fml.

i'm so sorry?? that's so frustrating! Hey listen, there's a programme i use called krita, it's really good! It's a lot like gimp and photoshop. They're always updating it, so every couple of months theres always new features. And the best part? It's free! Maybe it's an option you can look at. I hope your laptop survives!
